  The Velbria-Valen Civil War!
Posted by: - 07-12-2016, 07:19 PM - Replies (4)

*this thread will be under the management and maintenance of updates by the Confederate President Valen, and the Federation President Trevor. Everything within this thread contains information either directly stated by either opposing presidents or quotes siting information within the debate.*

After the declaration of independence from the former Empire, the nation of the Velbrian Republic lasted for fifty solid years, once acts and laws were passed, and constant police oppression and social policies, the leader of the "Opposition Party" lead an uprising, this new leader, Confederate President Valen, starts a violent campaign of a new nation, under his control. After years of constant death from bombing and war, the republic divides into two governmental bodies. The Federation of Velbria, and the Confederacy of Valenborn. The region of Selene will choose be divided by supporting bodies over the two governments, whomever gets more support, will then reunite the nation under the winner's ideology.

The Newly formed Confederacy of Valenborn, or the Old Republic of the Velbria Federation?

*This thread will then freely edited and used as a role play thread.

  Regional Canon
Posted by: - 07-12-2016, 05:53 PM - No Replies

Hi all!

In order to keep a consistent regional canon, I recently issued a ruling in my capacity as Founder of Selene, clarifying what is allowed for roleplays in Media Cavea. In short, our regional canon is modern tech, meaning there can be no futuristic or fantasy characters or stories, unless those are told as part of your national folklore. That being said, you are more than welcome to be as creative as you want in Summa Cavea, which is the section meant for all roleplays not based on the regional map.

Please read this thread to know more about the ruling and feel free to message me if you have any questions about this or suggestions on how to improve the region.

  Media Cavea Organisation

Hi Selene!

Seeing how Media Cavea has more threads every day, I wanted to get a feel of hour you all feel about the current organisation, and whether you might want further subdivisions within it (national newspapers, national information, international summits) or any other changes to The Amphitheatre.

Any suggestion is good, so please speak your mind. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this. :)

  [ATTN] Regional Canon
Posted by: - 07-07-2016, 09:41 PM - No Replies

RULING FROM THE FOUNDER

I don't usually make these official posts, so expect them to be very sparse. In this case, I want to make a clarification regarding the tech level of our regional canon and whether people may have other roleplay canons.

All roleplays based on the regional map must be modern tech. That means all technology should be based on that existing in the real world nowadays. Hence there can be no fantasy creatures, futuristic gadgets, manned interplanetary travel or anything similar.

Anyone registered on this forum is allowed to start other roleplays, even if they are not based on the regional map. Such roleplays belong in the Summa Cavea section. Roleplays based on the regional map but happening in an alternate reality or in a different tech level are allowed, provided that they are clearly marked as such.

tl;dr Your nation on the map has to be modern tech, but you can start non-MT roleplays in Summa Cavea.

  Kauzka, Then and Now
Posted by: - 07-07-2016, 09:35 PM - Replies (3)

Kauzka used to be a quite peaceful nation.
The inhabitants (although some tribes from the age of conflict still remained) were united in a single nation.
The minimal technology that they had was mostly used for comfort and farming and the like, a military hadn't existed for over 65 years. Most of the inhabitants were equal the only exception was Riaukas (Ranxiagrir's grandfather) and the rest of the nobility. They were and still are, developing their economy into a more efficient model. Their culture was very simple and valued traits like love, compassion, courage, activeness and intelligence. A persons worth was never measured by their physical strength or power, but intelligence was a thing that all people aimed to have in their short lives. One was taught to appreciate the beauty of nature and almost all civilians followed the Trakhi religion, which was based around the idea of Mother Earth as the one and only deity.

After contact was established with the rest of the world however, new technology flooded the nation and their culture fell away as the land was tainted with smog for the first time. Everyone all wanted to get rich and didn't care about the land or what they did to it. Trees fell, animals were slaughtered without feeling and mines turned plains into a minefield of sinkholes. Then Ranxiagrir took control of the nobility and enforced laws on the people. Trakhi was remade into a theology which suited the nation better and Kauzkan gained guidance from it. Today technology is slowly being ingrained into their society and children are taught the old way of living. Ranxiagrir frowns on technology but is accepting it. He and most Kauzkans are wary of other nations, lest their culture and way of living be overhauled again.

  Heiligarian History (Very Brief)
Posted by: - 07-05-2016, 09:29 PM - No Replies

In the ancient time of the Artemid Empire, the area that is now Heilgaria was called Schusteria, a region well known for it’s hostilities towards the Artemid Empire and it’s culture, which would later translate to Selenian Culture. This sort of tradition persisted until Grand Duke Leopold V started to “Seleneize” Heiligaria by granting large tracts of lands, previously belonging to poor Heiligarian Farmer, to Aristocrats from Sartoria, Sylon and Selene itself. The new lords burned acres of farmland to make elaborate castles and hunting lodges. They were seen as demons by the Heiligarian public, Heiligaria being one of the most religious countries in Selene, and countries such as Sylon, Sartoria and Selene itself were seen as godless heretics, and these new lords were causing massive famines. This caused a conflict known as the Scheibean Peasant War, a 23 year conflict between the Peasants and the Nobility, in some regions half the population was killed or displaced. The war finally ending when Leopold V was assassinated and Leopold VI ascended to the throne, whom immediately brokered a peace. New, democratic, offices were created, most notably Chancellor and Palatine. The Chancellor shares power with the Grand Duke as a sort of counterweight, and the Palatine replaced the Dukes as the rulers of the 4 regions of Heiligaria (Pomer, Shustland, Ilantia, Valea) To do this, the Grand Duke had to relinquish much of it’s power. And lastly, the more “Selenian” aristocrats were stripped of their land, which was then given back to their original owners. After reigning for 51 years, Grand Duke Leopold VI was assassinated by nobles who opted for more “Selenization” Grand Duke Maximilian III ascended to the throne, who was most well known for his liberal policies. First, he gave more power to the Chancellor and Palatines, whilst also giving all rights Nobility has to the peasantry, making him extremely hated by the nobility. A coup ensued that opted for Maximilian III’s brother, Friedrich Emanuel, who annulled the peasantry’s newfound rights and gave more power the Duchal side of the government. At this, an uprising occurred in Rilendria, which burned the Lord Mayor’s palace, which prompted the Grand Duke to send in Duchal forces to deal with the mob. The Chancellor, Ludwig von Pomer, agreed, which gave him a lot of bad press from the far left extremists. The uprising was put down and the city was put under martial law for two weeks. After a long, peaceful reign of 57 years Friedrich Emanuel passed away of old age, and the current Grand Duke, Grand Duke Leopold VII ascended, Leopold VII abolished the positions created in the aftermath of the Peasant War, and funded massive campaign to blame the Peasant War on the revolutionary leader Peter Frelyn, exposing many “war crimes” that many claim to have to real evidence. This version of the Peasant War would be taught at school, and his eventual execution was praised as strike against barbarity.

  A Sabbatical
Posted by: - 06-28-2016, 10:52 PM - Replies (3)

The street bustled with activity. A small square surrounded by cafes, a tobacconist, a pub, and a small church. A few clouds covered half the square with the sun illuminating the church and the tavern. Sin and absolution represented by light.
Father Ash Wagner continued to dissect the square. It was far different than his homeland and from his current home, Pontilear. There were a few taverns in his homeland but you were chastised if you visited them. No one walked as freely in his homeland as they did here or Pontilear. He sat amazed at the people walking around as they pleased.
He recently immigrated to Pontilear. As a priest he needed to seek asylum from his homeland. Religions were forbidden and he had been tortured and imprisoned for his faith and then professing his calling. He kept a reminder of his past with the eyepatch over his left eye.
He came back to the square. It was busy but peaceful. He lit his first cigar and began coughing. It soon ceased.
Ash realized his freedom for the moment. Though he is a priest in Pontilear, he is on sabbatical in Byzantium and not currently under Pontilear's authority (Well, not technically). This could be a week free from everything.
He worried about Archbishop Unferold finding out about his transgressions. However, he wanted to explore the city more. His position in Foreign Relations could be compromised...he wanted to throw his cares into the wind now.
A man in a suit sat down beside him.

"Is this spot taken?"

"No, please" said Father Ash

  [AFTER THE GREAT MEETING][IC]Fornirian Revolution

Catherine, Kingdom of Fornoire/Katerina, Jinaduom Fornoire

After the trip from Procellia, the King, Willihiam III, prepared for a speech. It was going to be historic, and it would send Fornoire into an uncharted path. A path never explored by Fornoire...

"My people!" said Willihiam by a televised speech "Today, I have the bravery and courage to tell you this..."

"THE REFORMS ARE A LIE!"

This astonished many in their houses, and the elite was shocked.

"For too long, I have seen my people suffer! Centuries of abuse from the aristocracy, it brought a tear to my eye when I was aware of the situation... The Famine of 2004 caused by terrible economic policies, the Communist Revolutions that lasted years because of the abuse, the Massacre of Turading University in 1976, and many abuses before that in our history..."

"I cannot let my people suffer any longer..."

"I will tell you the purest truth, fellow Fornirians: I do not have enough power to deliver justice in this Kingdom. I wish it to be so, but I cannot"

"...But you can"

"My people, help us end this tyranny! Revolt in the streets! Take the rich elite out!"

Suddently, soldiers appear and try to grab Willihiam. The Royal Guard struggles to fight them, but can't against military-grade soldiers. While being arrested, Willihiam screams

"Do not be afraid! You are strong! Be strong, do not be afraid!"

The people watched in horror as the King was suddently stabbed by the soldiers. In his pain, however, he still spoke

"Be strong, never be afraid..."

"Never...be...afraid..."

The King was taken out and sent to a hospital

The Next Morning...

The people awoke to a new King, Kladius IV, and to a Transitional Government composed of powerful people. In a televised speech, Kladius spoke, flanked by them. He was being forced to speak against his brother, whom he loved so much...

"Fornirians...I must explain...something"

"Willihiam III...is dead"

This was a lie, in order to legitimise Kladius. He was still in recovery from the stabbing. However this was intentional not only to make Kladius the monarch, but to make people lose hope

They were wrong

"A new Transitional Government...will share power with m-me...to help re-recover our nation..."

In tears, Kladius was still forced

"Sniff...Our country...our country..."

"Will be ruined by them"

"My brother is alive! He is alive and well! I will not LIE!"

A commotion occured. The new Transitional Government that flanked Kladius took him out, and arrested him, live on TV. They spoke

"Resistance is futile. Rebel, and you will die"

That afternoon, in Catherine...

A crowd of 50,000 showed up to the palace to demand the release of Willihiam and Kladius. They protested the Transitional Government. They chanted "Down with the tyrants!", "Release them!" and "Democracy!"

Things went wrong

A group of 1,200 soldiers began shooting the protesters. Many suffered death or injury. As they tried to run from the soldiers, helicopters gunned the protesters down, leaving many dead or injured. Catherine, a pristine city known for its peacefulness and modernity, bathed in a river of blood that afternoon

Fornoire was in trouble
