La Gazzetta di Messelia is one of the most trusted and circulated newspapers in the Messelia-Verale Historical Region. It was founded in 1974, with the merger its predecessors, La Gazzetta and Il Giornale di Messelia, part of a realignment of newspapers that reduced the total number of major newspapers by half and consolidated their ownership. La Gazzetta is currently owned by the Pellegrino Group, a business conglomerate with interest in the written media, wine and banking industries.

La Gazzetta is widely held as one of the newspapers of record in Sartoria, and through the years has won several awards for its integrity, accuracy and responsibility when reporting the news, particularly its ability to break stories of national interest. In particular, it has won the Fulvio Award -the top journalism award in Sartoria- in the category of Best Investigative Reporting seven years in a row, and its senior correspondents have all won various Fulvio categories.

Usually published in Sartorian, La Gazzetta also publishes an international edition, which regularly conveys news from Sartoria for a foreign audience. These articles are taken from said international edition.

  Tekism
Posted by: - 07-30-2017, 01:26 PM - No Replies

Tekism is a polytheistic religion native to Akarus. It is the largest religion in Akarus with an estimated 14 million followers.

Tekism holds a belief in three dieties: the dualistic dieties Faren and Geto, and Tek, the balance between them. Tekist theology centers on the eternal struggle between them to establish their order over the world. Its philosophy emphasizes maintaining order and balance, both within the individual and in the world.

There are several major theological branches of Tekism:
*Trinitarian: Trinitarian Tekism is the largest branch of Tekism and historically the state religion of Akarus. It believes the three dieties are equal in power, and that in their struggles maintain a balance of power between themselves to prevent any one diety from gaining an upper hand.
*Nontrinitarian: Nontrinitarian is the overall category for any branches that believe the deities are unequal in power. These branches are regarded as heretical by the offical Church of Akarus and have been subject to persecution for most of their history. There are several major forms of Nontrinitarian Tekism:
**One of the largest branches believes that Tek is greater in power than Faren and Geto. In its greater power it controls the fighting between them and maintains their balance. Its doctrine emphasizes the superiority of Tek and focuses worship significantly more on Tek over the other dieties. In many sects this belief borders on monotheism.
**Another branch believes Tek is weaker than Faren and Geto. This branch is split on the whether Tek being weaker is the cause of unbalance in the world, or because of it.
*Farengetoism: A fringe and radical branch of Tekism, Farengetoists believe that Tek is not a distict entity, but rather Faren and Geto collectively. Farengetoists believe that only by taking the two extremes together (a state they call "Farengeto") can true balance be found.

  Rules and Records of Founder Rulings

FOUNDER RULINGS
OVERVIEW AND RULES

What are Founder Rulings?

There are times when people disagree. Maybe someone did something that you think is unrealistic, like claiming to possess an excessively large army, annex lands that belong to someone else, claiming to use languages or cultural traits that are too different from those of neighbouring countries, or maybe you just disagree with someone on what is allowed in a roleplay. When that happens, and it seems that you might not agree on a good way to solve the problem, it might be a good idea to file a request for a Founder Ruling.

A Founder Ruling is a request for the Founder to review your case, see the evidence, hear the arguments made by both parties, and decide the fairest course of action. It is an easy and simple way to solve your difference, by letting a neutral third party take a look and see the case for its merits, rather than being biased towards you or the other party. Once the Founder has considered all the evidence, he will issue a ruling, which will be the final word on the controversy.

What are they not?

Founder Rulings are not a hostile measure. Their purpose is to prevent a hostile argument between the two parties, so they can make their case in a civil manner and respect the decision ultimately made by the neutral arbiter. In that sense, you should never shy away from filing a request, if you truly believe it would be best to let an unbiased party decide the best course of action.

Founder Rulings are also not a way for you to claim official victory over others. If you file a request, you should not assume that the result will be zero sum. It's possible that the Founder could rule in your favour, but it's also possible that he could rule against you. Or he might opt for a solution that addresses the concerns of both parties, so that nobody feels treated unfairly. Founder Rulings are meant to solve disputes and keep the peace, not to give either party the upper hand.

Who can request a Founder Ruling?

If any of the following apply to you, then you are entitled to use Founder Rulings as a way to solve controversies:
  • Presence in the Map of Artemia
  • Membership in the Ekklesia
  • Participation in The Dardanelles
If you have a doubt regarding your eligibility to file a request, it is best to ask in this thread or send a message to the Founder.

How does one file request for a Founder Ruling?

There is no need to write like a lawyer in order to file a request for a Founder Ruling, but you do need to be clear about what the problem is, what rule it breaks and why that is the case. While you can follow whatever format you desire, here is a simple format that you could use, if you are out of ideas:

Code:
[align=center][b]REQUEST FOR A FOUNDER RULING[/b][/align]

[align=justify][b]Petitioner:[/b] [Your Username]

[b]Issue:[/b] [Briefly describe your issue]

[b]Relevant Rule:[b] [Cite the Corpus Juris rules that have been violated]

[b]Argument:[/b] [Explain in as little or as much detail as you want why you believe the issue breaks the rules][/align]

Like I said, there is no standard form. If the above format doesn't help you make your case, you can use another one, as long as you remember to explain what the problem is and why it should be solved one way or another. It doesn't have to be overly legalistic and complex -not everyone is a lawyer-, but it does need to help the Founder understand why you believe what you believe.

Once you have your post ready, make sure to post it in Kalominos Palace.

What to do after a request for a Founder Ruling is filed?

If the Founder decides to accept your request, he will allow some time for the other party and any other interested parties to counter your arguments and present their own. You may also respond to the other party and make additional arguments, provided that you all post in a civil and respectful manner. If either party takes it as an opportunity to continue their old argument, Once sufficient time has passed, usually but not always, a week, the Founder will consider all the arguments made and publish his decision.

Once the decision is published, all parties involved will be expected to abide by it.

  Puglov and Language as It Relates to the Western Continent Arcadia
Posted by: - 07-16-2017, 09:12 PM - Replies (2)

This is a ruling request regarding whether a wholly made-up language utilizing a character-based writing system (similar to Chinese but NOT Chinese - I think the proper term for this sort of writing system is a syllable-based logography) as well as the usage of syllables, tone, and context to convey spoken meaning would be allowed and realistic to the setting of the Artemia as it is currently. In here, I have compiled a list of evidence and arguments in favor of using such a language.

Point #1: Artemia as a whole is a world that is kind of an alternate Earth but has a number of clear differences. The positioning of the continents, the size of the continents, the distribution of islands- it is a world that is geographically much different than that of Earth as we know it. This is made even more clear by the fact that the western continent rather than having a history and ethnicities similar to that of Native Americans has much more in common with Europeans. Additionally, it has not yet been clearly defined where ethnic and linguistic differences might arise. Much like Russia, Turkey, and Asia are on a similar continent near the same regions and have different histories, myths and legends, and languages, it is entirely possible the same could be said of the continent Arcadia. From the tip of Akarus to the peninsula of Selene through Sartoria onto plot 135, we have a very sizable landmass. I haven't done exact calculations, but it looks to me like it could be a good deal more than 10-15 million square kilometers, not quite as big as Russia and China combined but close. That's not including the rest of the continent from plot 138 (recently approved to be Puglov) southwestward and down. Who's to say a divergence in language couldn't have occurred around this point, especially if we add in that parts of Puglov and the plots near Puglov may or may not have been a bit geographically isolated due to mountain ranges?

Point #2: There were no conditions or standards set on what types of languages could be where so that a newbie such as myself could be forewarned before beginning development in Artemia.

Point #3: Although, Indo-European is identified as a basis for the languages on the western continent of Arcadia; it should be noted that again, this Earth is different and technically, there really isn't an Indo-European. The framework for the languages in the western continent of Arcadia, then, heavily based on actual Indo-European languages or no could've come about very differently. On a historical basis, writing systems usually evolve in the following way:

  • picture writing system: glyphs (simplified pictures) directly represent objects and concepts. In connection with this the following substages may be distinguished:
    • Mnemonic: glyphs primarily a reminder;
    • Pictographic: glyphs directly represent an object or a concept such as (A) chronological, (B) notices, © communications, (D) totems, titles, and names, (E) religious, (F) customs, (G) historical, and (H) biographical;
    • Ideographic: graphemes are abstract symbols which directly represent an idea or concept.

  • Transitional system: graphemes refer not only to the object or idea which it represents but to its name as well.
  • Phonetic system: graphemes refer to sounds or spoken symbols, and the form of the grapheme is not related to its meanings. This resolves itself into the following substages:
    • Verbal: grapheme (logogram) represents a whole word;
    • Syllabic: grapheme represents a syllable;
    • Alphabetic: grapheme represents an elementary sound.
(Directly from wikipedia, so, of course, this is no good for purely academic writing, but I think it may be helpful here in the case of roleplaying)

Logographic systems like one I wish to use would include systems besides Chinese such as Cuneiform and Mayan. In fact, logographic systems are usually some of the earliest forms of writing. It would not be so far-fetched to say that the languages of the Arcadia continent could have evolved and Puglov (and perhaps some other countries if they choose) may have ended up branching off and not evolving quite as quickly or having other reasons for not evolving (times of war, disaster, and/or hardship, for instance, may make it difficult to try and restructure a language)

Point #4: Puglov has additional linguistic evolution due to a shared history and influence of the Parthenian Empire (Parthenopias). Besides the usage of a different language, Puglov will also be using a language that does fit within the context of the continent, Parthenian (based on Greek and partial Italian). Puglov will also be utilizing a newer writing system as a result of this influence like (but again, NOT) Japanese romaji in which the character-based system is transformed into a 26-letter "westernized" alphabet that nonetheless borrows elements from the older writing system.

Point #5: The importance of this topic in regards to my nation is fairly high. Puglov as a word for a nation is unusual but one I wish to keep due to attachment to the name. Before I could even realize it, I started developing a language system for Puglov in order to explain the name. This began by breaking the name Puglov into two parts: pug and lov and assigning a couple of meanings to each part. It was then I realized that doing this might necessitate the use of a logographic system of writing instead of a westernized alphabet where words are represented by individual letters.

Point #6: At this current point in time, Puglov's connection to the world of Artemia has started developing through a shared history with Parthenopias. Plot 138 on the western Arcadia continent is an ideal vantage point for this history and having to relocate may mean having to drastically change such shared history as well as remove Puglov from where most of the potential roleplay opportunities are.

Points have been made, but I am willing to provide more information upon request. I will, of course, respect any ruling that you make.

  Age of Myths
Posted by: - 07-15-2017, 07:51 PM - No Replies

The world of Artemia is an old one with many legends already hushed about by figures that cover around small fires while beings lurk in the dark beyond them that should be left alone.

Already there are new nations that will soon decide the fate of future civilizations. people and beliefs and how they will see the world and how they will look back to these days.

Already there are individuals that seek out their luck in this unexplored, undocumented world where nothing is for certain and everything is unfathomably dangerous alone.

Welcome to the Age of Myths

Where the gods themselves still roam the world with creatures that will soon go down as nothing more than fantasy. So will your story if it even goes down in history but will this really be your goal?

Fame and historical immortality, riches or wisdom every single one of these you can receive with the right dedication and skills if you have them.

How will this go down?

That's very simple, it will all be very episodic with the Plotmaster being someone else from Myth to myth by going down the names of the players, alphabetically. The Plotmaster makes up a rough plot with the characters provided (Which can be reused) and then controls NPCs, monsters, events, and rough descriptions of the environment. Yes, everything will be pretty much at the mercy of this Plotmaster as the only rule for him is not to actively kill everyone or be too absurd but as he won't be forever Plotmaster he will have to overthink to abuse that power.

The Rules

1. Be respectful to other RPers. You can treat them like you want in RP but don't hold any grudges outside of it.

2. No Metagaming. You can't know what happened in situations you weren't there or by reading something someone else posted. You only know what your character saw.

3. No Mary-Sue. If you are perfect, you are at the wrong place.¨

4. No god modding. You are not a magician, you are a normal human, I think.

4. What the Plotmaster says stands.

6. If something misses in the rules, contact me.

  Uncertain But Hopeful Newbie

My nation is the nation of Puglove, which is headed by the Empress Lulusciel "Lulu" Heartworth. I just made that name up. Anyway, I've been roleplaying for about 10+ years (feel old now that I say that) off and on, and I'm an aspiring novelist. So, I hope to be able to contribute however I can. Also, I'm hoping I didn't make a bad impression.

  Nations in Minecraft: A world I created
Posted by: - 07-08-2017, 09:33 PM - Replies (3)

Welcome to a crappy, half-baked excuse for two sovereign nations literally made in two days as of the first version being published to a world of countries!

Inspired by my dream of creating nations on Minecraft and the complicated feudalistic Tsar Bomba of legalism and sovereignty that was the HRE, here comes another failure a new project!

There are already two nations established. They are very small, but they are pathetic crap inspired by those tiny states in the HRE. More developed nations might come later if I feel like it if there is enough popular support!

First, I would like to thank the apps Creative Share and MCPE Master for furthering the path of bland, boring, and lazyhood aiding me in my quest! Some towns I took from other creators, others I created myself! Hint: they're the ones whose houses don't even have a door

Those towns I created I left empty, so I could hurry up in the most lazy way possible the players can decorate them for themselves. I will decorate them when I feel like it if there is enough popular support.

So come on in to the most farcical excuse for two nations see the birth of something dull awe-inspiring! I hope you like it! Who am I kidding, no one will

  Microstates and Artemia
Posted by: - 07-07-2017, 03:25 PM - Replies (9)

I am here to begin a discussion about the possibility of allowing Microstates to exist in Artemia. As it stands the current map does not facilitate any plots for them and the current set of rules do not allow the dividing of plots thus making their creation currently impossible. Hence this discussion to change the latter and not the former.

I should point out that this is not a discussion for the existence of Micronations those would be like Sealand. Microstates in this are to apply to entities like Monaco, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, the Holy See (Vatican), Singapore and to an extent Hong Kong and Macao. Each of these entities has existed and survived into the modern world and for that I must say that they are some kind of modern marvel that truly exemplifies a resilience of their peoples. Though at the same point they only exist today because of the willingness of nearby nations to allow them.

I hereby propose that Microstates be allowed to exist in Artemia but under unique circumstances and governance. I believe they should not inherently be included in the Primary-Secondary system that currently exists as they are a literal blip on the map. I also believe they should be done in a case-by-case basis directly submitted to Justinian. This would allow and ensure that they are quality and well thought out ideas and thus we won't end up with a half assed microstate. They should also be plausible much like the ones that exist in the real world currently.

It would require that nations work together if it means carving out a small section of owned territory. For example if say Sartoria wished to have a microstate exist along the Parthenopian coast then I would need to agree to such a thing and it would need to be fleshed out as to why Parthenopias or my predecessor states didn't outright annex the city-state.

The Reason why I believe they should be allowed into Artemia is because they allow for the rich development of stories. Each of the IRL microstates has an interesting story to tell an interesting culture and a beautiful history. That enrichment could help stir interest in lore in certain regions of our world that are currently underdeveloped.

As for the limitations to be placed upon them that would be up to Justinian at the time of the idea being put to him. Not all microstates are as populous as Singapore or as rich as Monaco. I simply believe that they do have a place in Artemia and could provide some interest, amusement and enrichment for our region.

Thank you Smile
