  Valheim Embassy Applications
Posted by: - 03-26-2017, 05:29 PM - Replies (7)

This letter was delivered through official diplomatic channels to the foreign ministries of Artemia:

Quote:To whom it may concern:

I am pleased to announce that following the recent signing of H3441, more commonly referred to as the Foreign Embassy Renewal Act, I am authorized as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Commonwealth of Valheim to reopen the application process to all nations seeking an embassy with the Commonwealth. Enclosed within this letter are both a brief description of Valheim and instructions for applying for an embassy.

The Commonwealth of Valheim is a small archipelago in the southern Theophilos Ocean, home to approximately 2.1 million people. The first settlement, Isfjord, was founded in 1826, on the northeastern coast of the largest island in the archipelago, Valheim. Beginning as a seasonal whaling station, Isfjord provided a place during the summer months for whaling crews to lay up their ships during or after storms for repairs, and restock their provisions with fresh food and water. Explorations of the big island's interior by explorers such as the renowned Matias Hansen revealed many mineral deposits, including gold on the Hansen River. This led to the creation of a true colony with the first permanent settlement on the island- Gyldenhaven, in 1834. Gyldenhaven, despite its southerly latitude, would grow to become the largest settlement on Valheim in the coming gold rush and later the new nation's capital. By the 1870s, whaling was on the decline worldwide. Whaling had depleted most of the world's whale populations to the point of extinction, especially around the Valheiman islands. Kerosene from refined crude oil had replaced whale oil as a cheap heating and lighting source, and not even whaling's corner on the lubricant market was safe from petroleum. Many on the islands feared this would be the end of Valheim, as whaling alone made up over 60 percent of the islands' GDP and 80 percent of its exports. However, turning inland from the sea proved valuable again- some of the world's richest oil reserves waited under the icy plains. Oil brought not only economic recovery, but an economic boom. The oil industry supported the Valheimans not only through the beginning of the 20th century, not only through the uncertainty of independence in 1949, but all the way to the present day.

Valheim seeks through these embassies to expand its economic ties abroad. The country's chief export remains petroleum products, at 70 percent of yearly exports. Valheiman energy companies such as Sor and Rodbukt are looking forward to both foreign investment and an enlarged consumer base by trade abroad. However, the country is also looking to diversify, particularly into the burgeoning tourist industry. The nation hopes to excite and tantalize the citizens of the world with Valheim's one-of-a-kind vistas and experiences, culture and customs. Expansion into high technology fields, such as electronics, computing, and software will also be spurned on by the establishment of your embassy in Valheim and formalized relations with the Commonwealth. Please be aware that the Commonwealth of Valheim maintains a policy of neutrality towards all international affairs, and the establishment of an embassy will not necessarily portray its favoritism towards any party or another.

Embassies to the Commonwealth of Valheim are required to be located in the nation's capital, Gyldenhaven. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends purchasing an existing property rather than constructing one's own embassy. If this must be done, however, please consult with the city planning office to make sure such construction follows the city's regulations and ordinances. Valheim will not entertain embassies with any more than one hundred staff members. A strong security presence is not required; Gyldenhaven Police are especially skilled with protecting important government officials and foreign dignitaries.

To apply for an embassy, please reply to this letter with the name of the Ambassador to Valheim, the number of embassy staff, and whether you seek to purchase or construct your embassy. The Commonwealth of Valheim expresses its sincere gratitude for your interest in formalizing relations and improving our bonds economically and politically.

Best Regards,
Erik Andersen
Minister of Foreign Affairs, The Commonwealth of Valheim

Evening,

I am Nostrasia and you may have just seen me in the RMB. I am supposed to be 1920 themed nation in the modern world which is quite a hard task. I have to remove computers from the homes of my citizens and keep them strictly at government facilities so that they are not influenced by the Modern Mayhem and the culturebreakdown.

I existed a year ago, saw a Polandball picture of my nation and decided to bring it back from the graveyard and here I am.

Hope that I can involve myself wholeheartedly in this region as a roleplayer and in its regional politics as a conservative.

What I also hope for is that I get to know you all and have a good time.

Speaking of 'time', I thank you dearly for reading my introduction and hope that you may leave a comment too. It would let me feel validated.

Good night, everybody.

Silver Light Ball

Clarien Castle, Familial Estate of House Bast
Saint Claire du Velle, Mitan, Noveaux

"Are you sure that you want them to attend?" Olivier asked the Chancellor. The topic of the chancellor's family had come up considering their opposition to his position in the government, his politics and indeed to the young Sovereign's election. Sigmar von Lohen was the black sheep of his family by a long shot, his nephew the young Kozig (King) of Altannen was quite vocal about wanting to disown his uncle and strip him of his surname. It was no small matter as special dispensation had to be granted by the Sovereign and as of yet that had not occurred. Olivier was the host of this year's Silver Light Ball and as such could simply not invite the Kozig of Altannen but that would be politically difficult. Olivier would if the Chancellor so believed that his nephew would cause trouble at the event.

"It would be improper to not invite him. We both know what he would do if he was told he could not attend. That he wasn't 'welcome' here." Sigmar said with a bit of a exasperated look on his face. The situation wasn't favorable as he really didn't want his nephew there stirring up dissent among the High Nobility and Realm Royalty. He, like his father, had a knack for letting trouble find him. The von Lohens had been nearly toppled following the fall of the Novean National State in 1949 and the restoration of the Imperial Administration. They had been willing collaborators with the Nationalists and had been the only House of the High Nobility not to flee the country in 1942 with the Emperor. They had nearly been exiled in 1949 but the Emperor had simply stripped them of half their lands and wealth making them nearly collapse in the 1970s during the national financial crisis. They had however survived while some of the older and more prestigious houses had collapsed. They somehow knew how to worm their way through events and come out stronger against all expectations. That feat however made them plenty of enemies throughout the central and western realms.

Magnus IV von Lohen was the young Kozig of Altannen and had been the only challenger against the young Ascendant Evander Atlas for the sovereign election several days prior to the Ball. The wounding of his pride from losing so thoroughly to minor had driven him to rant against the Imperial Monarchy, the centralizing of authority in Noveaux and the peaceful stance the nation took on the world stage. "Might as well invite the brat, I'm sure he's already planned to attend anyways." Sigmar said letting out a small sigh as he took a sip of the tea. It was a passionflower blend that had been imported and he rather loved it. It seemed to both calm his nerves and give him little bursts of energy that helped him get through his days.

"I'm not sure the Kozig would appreciate being called a brat." The voice startled both Olivier and Sigmar. They turned from where they were sitting under the pavilion in the gardens to see that it was the elderly figure of Lukas Montcourt. They both stood rather swiftly and bowed respectfully to the man before them. Olivier and Sigmar were rather embarrassed that the Lord Regent overheard the two talking rather poorly about one of the realm sovereigns. That was when Lukas smiled at the pair and motioned for them to sit back down, pulling himself up a chair so as to join them. "Then again family is not given the same regard as non-family." He said with a bit of a smile. The atmosphere seemed to thaw between them and the three carried on conversing about the evening's various guests. The thaw was what was known as the Montcourt charm, wherever he seemed to be any conflict seemed to just dissipate as if ice thawing.

That Evening
Everyone who was anyone in Noveaux was in attendance. Most of the Novean guests had already arrived at the estate in the mid-afternoon to partake in a religious ceremony that was being presided over by the Grand-Divine. The ceremony was known as the Petranari in which the Clerics ask the Goddess Petra for a blessing of wisdom to the people of Noveaux. Fire sacrifices of fir branches send pillars of smoke high into the sky and all around Noveaux one might thing that they are signal fires if they had never witnessed the ceremony before. The ceremony in the plaza of Saint Claire du Velle had every citizen and the guests of Olivier present for the event. This however was greatly dwarfed by the ceremony taking place at Mont Sarcien which held Petra's Prime Temple. The bonfire and ensuing smoke could be seen for many miles and as it made its way to the aetherial planes above it acted like a beacon for all the others.

After the ceremony the guests made their way to Clarien Castle where the ball was being held. The small hedges in the central courtyard of the Castle had a wooden platform and steps placed over them so as to provide more space for guests. A live band would be performing various music popular in Noveaux while also playing traditional Novean classical dances for the guests to enjoy themselves. A buffet style of tables filled with various Novean foods and a small selection of foreign cuisine selected for the international guests who were present, as were trays of champagne, Novean Wine and light non-alcoholic drinks for those who preferred. An arched tunnel of sorts led out from the south wall of the courtyard into the maze while on the north wall a similar tunnel opened to the drive where guests were being dropped off by cars. Security was tight as guests were expected to leave their own guards at the tunnel entrance since the Imperial Guard would be handling all internal security. At the entrance to the tunnel leading to the drive stood those who made up what they themselves joked as the 'greeting committee'. First in the line was the Chancellor Sigmar von Lohen, then came the Lord Regent Lukas Montcourt who, when not shaking the hands of the guests had his hands behind his back as if he was in his own mind pacing back and forth. Next to the Lord Regent stood the young Kaizig (Emperor) Evander Atlas. The sixteen year old was wearing a tux that had a sapphire sash with golden leaves embroidered along the edges. He was smiling and greeting the guests as though he had been raised for this sort of thing. To the right of Evander and the last in the committee was the host, Olivier Bast. He was young, handsome and by all accounts enjoying himself.

The mood was jovial, the atmosphere was warm and the people were mingling as they listened to the music. All the 'committee' could do was wait for their international guests to arrive. The young Emperor stood there smiling and was eager to meet them while the Lord Regent seemed to be in his thoughts. The others present were just there mingling among themselves and entertaining those who they could from where they were.

  [IC] The Website
Posted by: - 03-16-2017, 09:06 AM - Replies (2)

Maurizio blinked when the screen went dark, sure that it all had to be one big confusion, a mistake by the computer. Yet, as the minutes passed and the screen remained dark, he started to get nervous, slowly getting the unnerving feeling that he had screwed up in a big way this time. He tried to turn on his computer, checked the plug and even tried to turn on his laptop, but it was no use. In fact, it seemed like all electricity and electronic devices in his house had suddenly stopped working without as much as a warning. He was at a complete loss as to how that was even possible.

Unless…surely it couldn’t be related to the website he had been browsing? He had heard the rumours, read the warnings of impending doom, but it had to be all lies, everyone knew it to be an urban legend, a tale design to scare naïve people from the east. Could that be related to what was happening now?

He nearly jumped from his seat when he heard a knock on his door. At first he tried to ignore it, remaining still, in an effort to convince whoever was knocking that there was nobody home, but it obviously failed when the knocking insisted, with renewed strength. Then he heard a voice call out, saying six words that instantly froze him:

“Maurizio Tomalini, sapiamo che sei qui.” (Maurizio Tomalini, we know you are here.)

They had called out his name. His name. While knocking on his door. He swore, damning the hour he accessed that website, because now he was certain it was about that. The knocking kept going, each time more insistent, until he heard knocking on the ground floor windows too. It was all so much, so loud, he stood from his seat and retreated from his desk. The knocking stopped.

Then that voice spoke again. “That’s good, now walk slowly towards the door, and open it. There is much to talk about.”

He stood still for what seemed like ages, then the voice called out again. “You don’t want us to start knocking again now, don’t you?” He figured it was all the same, since he was probably surrounded, by the sound of all the previous knocking, and he walked towards the front door. Behind it he found a completely ordinary man, without any distinctive features or anything that would make him stand out in a crowd, yet there was something in him that made Maurizio stand back, as the stranger entered his house, quickly signalling someone else to wait outside.

They both sat in the living room, not before the stranger asked Maurizio for permission to do so, and waiting for him to do the same.

“You know, this is the third time I come to this neighbourhood on official business. It’s quite a record, to have three different people living so close access that website.”

Maurizio said nothing, sitting uncomfortably, finally sure that this was about the website he had foolishly visited. The stranger had obviously noticed, because he briefly chuckled, before continuing the one-sided conversation.

“Alright, let’s go back for a bit. I know this is confusing, often overwhelming, so I’ll take it slow. You accessed a website, one that we constantly monitor, and this means I have to talk with you to know why you did that, and how much you know about the website.”

“Come now, Mr Tomalini.” Said the stranger after a short pause. “I have to ask you these questions, so the less time you take to answer, the sooner we can all wrap this up. First things first: why did you access the website?”

He was going to stay quiet, but there was something in the man’s eyes, something that hadn’t been there earlier, that told Maurizio that his participation in the conversation was not optional, that the result of not answering was something he wouldn’t want to know; so he mustered what little strength he had and answered the question the stranger had posed to him.

“A friend sent it to me.”

“Ah! See, there wasn’t so bad, was it? I obviously already know the name of that friend –we’ll talk to him later today-, but did he tell you anything specific about the nature or contents of the website, before you had a chance to access it?”

“He said he had found it the other day, that I would find it fun.”

He seemed very interested in that, almost to the point of amusement, leaning forward. “Fascinating. And did you?”

“It was a cult website, full of superstitions and revisionism. There was nothing fun about it.” That much was true, even if it downplayed his true feelings about the website. He had found it in terrible taste, glorifying the genocides from decades before and calling for a return to religious extremism in government and society. It was a disgusting ideal, and he had closed the tab as soon as he understood what it was about. It was minutes after that that his power went out.

The stranger nodded. “You obviously know that accessing the kind of website you did is a criminal offence per Royal Order 18193.” He continued, without waiting for a response. “Do you sympathise with the Order of the Bloody Hand, the Cult of Sacur or the Pale Skin Society, Mr Tomalini?”

“What?” That question had disturbed him beyond measure. “I’m not one of the Sacuri, if that’s what you’re asking. I’ve never sympathised with their views, and I know enough history to know that they were insane savages. I have nothing to do with them.”

There was an odd expression in the stranger’s face. It went as quickly as it came, but Maurizio had seen it, and he was struggling to detect what it had been. It wasn’t surprise or happiness, nor was it relief or calmness. Was it…disappointment? Why would the stranger be disappointed that he was not a Sacuri? He had little time to think about it, because the stranger suddenly rose, adjusting his coat and turning towards the door.

“That’ll be all, Mr Tomalini. I strongly advise you to keep the contents of our conversation to yourself. In fact, it would be best if you forgot everything about our visit tonight. As far as the world should be concerned, you forgot to check that website, and that’s the end of the story.”

An uncomfortable silence, before the stranger broke it again. “Does that sound acceptable?”

Maurizio slowly nodded, remaining seated, relieved that he was finally being left alone. The stranger reached the door, opened it and walked through it, turning left and disappearing into the night. In the distance, Maurizio could distinguish the sound of a vehicle of some kind starting, and soon the night was again as quiet as it had been before this whole affair started. It had been insane, but so many questions still remained. Who had been that man? Who did he work for? He was obviously from the government –only they could possibly have such technology and manpower to get to him minutes after accessing the website-, but for which agency did he even work? Was he in any kind of danger or surveillance now?

He had remained still this whole time, sitting on his couch in the living room, in the same position that he had been during the conversation with the stranger, submerged in his thoughts until an incessant knocking brought him back to reality. There was someone at the door, knocking for nature knows how long, and there he was, concerned that it was the stranger, somehow having decided to take him. Eventually the knocking stopped, he heard his door unlock, and he saw another completely regular looking person, a woman this time, stepping inside, followed by three men.

“Mr Maurizio Tomalini?”

Internally, he wanted to scream, run away, anything but stay still as this happened all over again. Instead, he opened his mouth, found it too dry, and closed it again, staring intently at the woman instead. Her demeanour projected a no-nonsense style, but her facial expression, especially her eyes, made her seem like a rather pleasant person. He had the impression that both were conscious decisions on her part.

“I will take that as a yes.” She said, approaching the couch, and standing right in front of it. One man was next to her, the other two were at the door. “My name is Roberta Gentiloni. I work at the Royal Eastern Security Service, and I would like to ask you some questions about the man who just left your house.”

Information for the Silver Light Ball

Rules
- Only nations that have contacted me (Noveaux) through Telegram on NS, PM on here or on the IRC are going to be allowed to post in the IC thread for the Silver Light Ball. This is a major rule and nations that post in there without permission will have their posts deleted at my request. This is because it means your nation was not invited to the event and as such you wouldn't be there.

-Nations are invited on the basis of established relations coupled with neutral or better relations. Established relations with Noveaux for this circumstance means that we have traded Ambassadors and maintain Embassies in one another's nations. Please don't assume that this has occurred if you are not listed in my foreign policy thread on iiwiki. I'm more than willing to talk about this and retroactively have this added to my own national cannon so that you can attend, hence why nations should be contacting me if they aren't sure about this.

-Please keep post to long than 2 sentences. This is to help with dialogue and progression of events.

-If you have questions about protocol, what your people are expected to do and how they are expected to greet some of the notable Novean figures present then please TG or PM me! Assuming things leads to diplomatic insults and such. Due to this being IC and considered cannon that means that if you accidentally insult say my Chancellor that could lead to a diplomatic souring of relations so please keep that in mind!

Non-Invited
This is by no means personal! It would be unrealistic for your nations to be in attendance based on the state of our diplomatic relations, lack thereof. Your nations were simply not invited, this shouldn't really be considered and insult to your nations or leaders but simply that we aren't on good enough ties for you to attend such a high profile civilian event in Noveaux.

The IC will be linked here and will be up tomorrow.

What are your thoughts on Star Wars?

Like it? Hate it? Like the Prequels or the Sequels?

Personally, I love the Prequels and Originals, but I dislike what I've seen of the Sequels so far. That said, I've read plenty of novels from the new canon, and I love them all so far.

As for The Last Jedi, I'll go watch it, but I can't say I'm excited about it.

So, what do you all think?
