Left or Right?

#11

I was on the middle left when I took it. Only slightly on left wing side though.

It seems to me like political compass is pretty sufficient for liberal democratic views (by that I meanbasically the major parties of Western countries), if you fit somewhere in there. But outside of that it seems like a lot of the nuance of other ideologies gets lost or doesn't make sense. It places me all the way in the bottom left, but I wouldn't really describe myself that way. I don't really know of a better alternative though.

My economic is -6.25 and my social is -5.13
In other words I'm left libertarian and a bit lower than Ghandi on that exemplar.
lol its pretty much anarchist communism which is what i am anyways.

Left libertarian here.
Though with more libertarian and less left than I expected from that political compass test. Still about right, I prefer the government being involved in strong education, as well as racial/gender/class/etc. equality. Outside of equal opportunity for everyone though, small government otherwise.

I'm a pretty left wing individual in general. Personally I'd describe myself as a left libertarian, although I do have some socialist tendencies.
  • Foreign Policy (relative to the USA)

I would describe myself as an internationalist non-interventionist. That means the military ought not to be used unilaterally except for self-defense after an attack on US soil. However, if there is a genocide going on (such as the current genocide of drug users in the Philippines), I do believe in working with the UN to get a coordinated effort with the entirety of the international community. I am a big believer in international law, and I would require strict adherence to any and all international and tribal treaties to which the US are currently signatories. I would have the US pull out of any and all conflicts overseas, as congress has yet to pass a declaration of war.
  • Economics
This is where my socialist tendencies mostly lie. I believe in a full and immediate reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act. I would also like to see nationalized healthcare, nationalized schools (or at least no more charter schools), including tuition free college/university, and a nationalized energy sector. I would also like to see at least partial employee ownership of businesses and corporations, say like 40% colllective ownership or something. This way employees are motivated to do well and be productive while still leaving room for investors and entrepeneurs to advance their own ideas. On free trade, I do actually that free trade can be mutually beneficial, but only between nations with similar economic situations/pay scales, and additionally, free trade must also mean free movement. Countries engaging in free trade should also have open borders with one another.

  • Social Policy
This is where most of my libertarian comes in. While I do believe in stricter gun control in the US, I still believe in the right to own certain types of firearms. Most social issues for come down to whether or not your actions are infringing upon the rights and liberties of other people. For example, I believe in the legalization, taxation, and regulation of all drugs for recreational purposes. Those with legitimate addiction problems ought to be given proper rehab and medical care, while the majority of moderate users can be allowed to continue on with their lives, knowing that their product is properly regulated and safe. It is illogical to allow the sale of Alcohol (rated as one of the most destructive substances, being comparable to heroin), while giving long term jail sentences to those who have LSD, which one cannot overdose.

These are just the things that I was able to write off the top of my head. If you have any questions about my positions on just about any topic, feel free to ask!

I'm always curious to see what everyone thinks of the political systems in America directly. Does anyone else see a problem with the way we vote, or the way the president is selected, or the method of Justice appointments, or elections for judges, or do you see none at all? Those sorts o' things are more crucial to me, as the guy who will use o' in a sentence that isn't Irish-inspired or a time. Tongue

I assumed that everyone in the USA has a problem with the way we vote, with the exception of those who simultaneously have the power to change the system, and benefit most from how it currently works.

Of course! Why change the system when you're out ahead?
