FOREIGN OFFICE CALLS FOR SENSIBLE LEADERSHIP

Mario Concella expressed concern for the international vacuum
Mekselia. In a press conference last night, Director for International Analysis Mario Concella said the Foreign Office had concerns that several countries were proving to be unrealiable partners and that the costs of the international instability they might cause would greatly outweight the hypothetical benefits of giving them the opportunity to influence world affairs. In the half hour that the press conference, Concella took questions on the ongoing Meksellia Summit, the military interventions in Imperial Military Greece and the role of Sartoria given the withdrawal of longtime ally Selene from active involvement in international affairs.
He confirmed that the Foreign Office viewed with concern the anti-Selenian rhetoric seen in some of the attending delegations, saying that Sartoria valued its relationship with Selene and had no intention of hosting conferences with the sole purpose of denigrating its ally. In that sense, he said that First Councillor Valerio was aware of the differences of opinion among the delegations and would keep the focus of the summit towards establishing diplomatic relations among all nations and keeping a commitment for open trade.
Concella also condemned the military intervensions in Imperial Military Greece, particularly criticising the way in which the Greek government has approached the issue of terrorism. "We acknowledge the gravity of terrorism" he said "but we are concerned that certain governments are seizing this as a chance to expand their influence, regardless of the importance to treat both sides of this conflict in a humane manner." He proposed that a neutral state, such as Sartoria should serve as arbiter between both sides, as a way to broker a peaceful solution.
On the topic of Selene, Concella conceded that the announcement by Emperor Justinian had caught the Foreign Office by surprise, but reaffirmed the commitment of Sartoria to a continued alliance, and said that, in the face of states whose goals did not appear to be those of international peace and stability, Sartoria might have to take up the mantle and guarantee an international order safe from imperialism. He said that Foreign Councillor Marelli and First Councillor Valerio have been meeting with foreign governments in order to agree on the basic tenets of the international order and reach common understandings on the importance of peace and cooperation.
