[IC] Mekselia Summit

#51

"I must disagree with some points SIR," said Yutan, looking menacingly. "You see, military interventions must be seen as one of first options in times of terror. For example, the Imperial Greek States here has suffered multiple terrorist attacks. What should we do? Clearly we must attack them with military force. Not just the terrorists, but also the Turks. They're a minority anyways, so what does it matter? Imperial Greece was made a nation for the Greeks, not for the Turks. Another thing that you said was for each of our nation's people to connect and grow, correct? But, the Solteks are extremely anti-globalization. We want remain with our laws and rules, not some ideas that foreigners wanted. Now, I do agree that we need to hold summits regularly. But, I propose that next time we do, it be at the Sol Federation's capital as I am the one who proposed the idea in the first place. But yeah, so let's hear your response, Mr. Valerio," he said sarcastically.

The high priestess sighed, having resigned herself to generally being ignored. It certainly made following her orders easy, but it was clear that she'd have to at least say something about his radical proposal.

"Procellia respects all national borders, and the right for countries to govern as they see fit. However, we will abstain from this bill because it infringes on our sovereign rights as an independent state."

Heesish felt it was his time to speak 'I agree that we do need to hold regular summits, and I'm sure most other delegates here do as well. I also agree that trade should be increased between all nations especially since isolated ones like the Sol Federation and Procellia my have a lot of good things to trade that are new to the world. I do however, disagree with the militarisation part as how do you propose we deal with Greece?' He pointed at Takis his country's being over run with terrorists with only some nations sending help. Those nations might be able to get rid of the terrorist threat but if we leave now how will Greece survive? And what about my home country Kauzka? We had terrorists controlling the south side of our country and you think we should've left them there? I agree that militarisation should not be a common thing but I think for matters within individual nation should be handled by those nations. And regarding the Turks, the have technically declared war and unless those terrorists are a separate group, then I think we should deal with them in a way we would deal with any other country that declares war, which is try to pander to them and try to make a peace treaty and when that fails, drones and nukes' Heesish said sitting back down.

Having stayed silent for too long, Meztli Ilhuitl entered once again into the active discussion.

"The Federation of Tepetitlán opposes military intervention as a primary means of combating terrorism, but does cede the notion that it may be, at times, necessary. The Federation prefers to combat terrorism through means such as cutting off black market supply and trade routes, for example. Often times, war serves as a justification to their cause, and further emboldens their ideology of violence and suffering. We also oppose unilateral action, without involvement of the international community. If we wish to fight the issues facing the world, we must do so in a coordinated manner. In regards to trade, we believe that Tepetitlán has a lot to offer to the world, and that the world has a lot to offer Tepetitlán. Strengthening our economic ties will see our diplomatic and cultural relationships grow, creating an enviornment where the common humanity is more likely to be looked out for, instead of tribalistic isolationism, which sows the seeds of hatred. We stand in firm agreement with the First Councillor, and we certainly hope that the other delegations see the wisdom in cooperative agreements and the peaceful resolution of differences."

Valerio was no stranger to political talk. In his reasonably long time in politics, he had met politicians who said one thing in public and privately believed the exact opposite, he had met politicians who promised to do one thing but actively worked to accomplish the opposite, he had met the rare honest politician who believed one thing and actively compaigned for it, and he accepted the reality that all would exist and coexist, without ever feeling disgusted or horrified by their words. He was both horrified and disgusted now.

"They...they are just a minority?" almost unable to speak, he looked around the room, try to convince himself that he was not the only one who detected the horrible implications of those words "You will excuse me, but that is an extremely undignified way of seeing the world. In a civilised society, quantity couldn't be less important. Minorities should have as many rights as the majority, regardless of their numbers or differences. I'm not sure how much progress is possible if the answer to any dissent, be that peaceful protesting or terrorisim, is to argue for a military solution."

He then turned to the delegate from Kauzka. "With all due respect, 'drones and nukes'? That is a sure way to bring upon the end of the world as we know it. Should I remind those present of the inherent dangers, both political and environmental, of utilising weapons of mass destruction? I am well aware that many nations represented in this room have a dislike for Selene, but if they should learn anything from it, that would be the art of restraint. Our world is fragile, particularly so following the Selenian withdrawal from international politics. We have two choices: irresponsible confrontation on one side, or peaceful and progressive cooperation on the other side. I aiim for the latter. The honourable delegate from Tepetitlan aims for the latter. Do all other nations really prefer isolation and military confrontations?"

The high priestess again stood, hoping to make it clear just where her Empire stood on the issues at hand "The Empire of Procellia has no official position on any of the civil wars or inner conflicts that have been mentioned. Our only official actions have been medical care in Greece, which equally benefits both sides. We do not pick sides in conflicts and we do not condone or condemn the actions of any in this room. Procellia is a nation of peace and so long as our borders and rights as a neutral nation are not infringed upon we will not side with anyone in military matters. We view free and unrestrained trade as antisocialist and will not participate in any international scheme, not will we ever surrender our rights to anyone."

Yutan smirking at Valerio, said, "Why, yes they are just a minority. That's how it works right? The majority will always rule over the minority, after all that's how it works in democracies right? Now about what you said of me favoring isolation and military confrontations. That isn't the case. You see, the Sol Federation has decided, after centuries of isolation, to play a role in world affairs. But not just any role. We want to become the next SUPERPOWER. Selene holds this title right now, but one day they will lose their superpower status, and me and our allies will take that position. In our holy book, it is said that the Solteks will emerge from the pits of evil, and become the ones to meet the gods themselves. It's called Manifest Destiny. Now don't be alarmed. We will not wage war against any nations unless they provoke us. But, like Procellia has stated, we will not surrender ourselves to anyone." Yutan then look Valerio bloodshot, then further stating, "Selene and their allies are a threat to the Solteks, to people of other nations, and the world. They propose Selenization, oh or should I say 'globalization'. That is all." Yutan sits in his chair angrily, awaiting Valerio's response.

A couple of aides, both the ones standing behind Valerio and others sitting at the end of the room, shifted uncomfortably, while looking at either Yutan or the First Councillor. They saw the latter shift from an impassionate expression to one of absolute contempt. A mere seconds after, while the room was still silent, they saw Marco Valerio walk away from the table and head towards the door. One aide took the yellow pad and the pen with which the First Councillor had been writing, while all other aides quickly followed him. Less than five minutes after his appeal, Valerio left the room, without uttering a single word, the doors closing once he was out.

A few seconds after, a butler entered the room and informed the delegates that their vehicles were ready and waiting outside. Secretary Ilhuitl from Tepetitlán was simultaneously given a note to be read in private, an invitation to join the First Councillor in a private meeting later that night.

'I meant nukes as a last resort and I do not stand with Yutan regarding the 'minority'. I do, however believe that if a terrorist organisation threatens the security of an entire nation or multiple nations that it needs to be dealt with swiftly, sometimes regardless of ethical reasons. If an entire nation is taken over such as Greece was do you really think it's a good idea to try and give them a telling off by cutting off trade routes? Why were you trading with them in the first place? I do agree that every problem doesn't need to be solved with force but if they are killing people then they should face the same fate' Heesish said 'the Turks, unless they support the terrorists, should be left out of the matter but you need to face the facts that not everything can be solved peacefully'
Heesish then turned to Yutan and whispered 'about that meeting, meet me in the hotel down the street' he then left as well.

Takis then stood up " With all do respect you are not going to be bombing my country with nukes.

It is bad enough with the bombs going off in my country and we do not need anymore people being killed by those damn explosives".

he then turned to Valerio and said " As much as i hate to kill the Turks they are continuing to kill my people and the priests in the most unspeakable acts of cruelty.

You guys can send forces to attack them but they will come back. The Greek and Turkey War has waged for a long time and i want to see my people living in peace not in fear of the Turks."

Takis then said " You can send forces to attack them but NO BOMBS WILL BE PLACED IN MY COUNTRY".

Takis then looked at Valerio and said " I know killing is wrong but we can not dismiss this or else more bloodshed will arise in my country".

He then sat down and slammed down a paper in the and said " This is the paper if anyone wants to sign so the Greeks can have oil".

He waited for anyone's reply
