The Drewish Empire
OVERVIEW:
The Drewish Empire is a nation under monarchical rule off the Western coast of the Southern Continent of Artemia. The nation consists of two home islands, as well as a territory on the continental mainland. The relationship between the islands and the territory is that of a mother country and her colony.
POPULATION:
The Drewish Empire has a population of 80,052,932 people, most of which live on the home islands. Due to the dense population, space for housing has been a perennial issue in the nation.
GOVERNMENT:
The Empire is ruled by one Grand Imperator, as well as a Council of Lords. The Lords are given power from birth, and each Lord represents one powerful family in the Empire. Lords convene as a council to vote on issues throughout the Empire, as well as to pass laws and regulation. The Council also has the ability to impeach the Grand Imperator with a 2/3 majority vote. In turn, the Imperator holds more power than any other person in the Empire. He or she (there has been a female Imperator in the past) can overturn any law passed by the Council, as well as impose new laws. An Imperator also has complete control of the Drewish Armed Forces. An Imperator represents the most powerful family in the Empire, and serves for life. The current Imperator is Sir Christopher Stachowiak, of the mighty House of Stachowiak. He is currently 67 years old, and upon his death, most believe that Sir Arthur Wellman, of the House of Wellman will take his place. The government receives little to no input from poor or working class citizens, as the wealthy aristocracy rules the nation. The Empire practices a policy of extreme militarism, putting most of its resources behind a strong military. Welfare is low in the Empire, since most of the resources that would be used for Welfare are spent on the armed forces.
ECONOMY
The Drewish economy is one of the most powerful in Artemia, with a GDP of 3.4 trillion Imperial Credits. The Imperial economy is capitalist, and is based heavily on the nation's primary export, petroleum products. Recently, the economy has experienced a boom due to the increased trade created by the Empire joining the Nationalist Alliance.
MILITARY
The Drewish Armed Forces are incredibly powerful, due to a variety of factors. First, the nation's spending policy involves more tax money being spent on the military than any other sector. Second of all, the military receives incredibly high support from the local population, due to the fact that the main religion of the empire portrays military service as a sort of spiritual duty. Drewish battle doctrine involves using the nation's incredibly powerful navy to make up for its army, which is somewhat weaker than other nations in the world. The Drewish Navy is world renown for its massive size and power. The navy includes 5 carriers. Researchers are currently designing the Arrow Class Destroyer, which will make use of a highly efficient power system to use advanced weaponry, such as electromagnetic railgun cannons. The Drewish Navy has a long history of brilliant commanders, the most recent being the brilliant Sir Arthur Wellman. The army on the other hand, is a different story. Drewish rifles are known to be inferior to those the Fornirians use, as are their tanks. Army commanders are also inferior in their strategic abilities compared to many other militaries.
CULTURE
Drewish culture is dominated by two things: religion and patriotism. At times the two are difficult to distinguish from each other. The national religion of the Empire is Tnarism. This faith is based on the teachings of one of the Empire's founders, and stresses that allegiance to one's nation and service in the military are the only paths to heaven. 98% of citizens are adherents of this faith, and publicly worshiping other religions is illegal in the country. Tnarism dominates all of Drewish society, from the government to the school system. The Empire has achieved an impressive feat, in that the country experiences little to no discrimination based on race, orientation, and gender. This has come about mainly due to the fact that the Empire will conscript any healthy citizens into the military, and since service in the military means respect, discrimination has all but been erased.
