Plans for a defense pact between Xialta and Qastari

#1

After the very aggressive comments of the Xialtan Socialists and the Xialtan government, stated in the latest article of the Red Mantle, which is the primary state-owned news outlet of Xialta, the C.F.R.T., with order from the Queen of Xialta, sent another diplomat to Qastari to discuss the situation of Socialists struggling in foreign nations and possibly sign a defense pact between the two nations, to guarantee both Xialta's and Qastari's safety against other major nations that might want to cause them trouble or harm.

After arriving in Drako, the Xialtan diplomat was finally escorted to meet with the GS of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After introducing himself, him and the diplomat returned to his office. "Greetings comrade. I've been made aware that you have a very important issue to discuss with me. What can I assist you with today?"

The diplomat sits down on a chair, opens up his briefcase, takes out a bunch of papers and explains "Greetings to you too, comrade. You see... it seems like we've made a plethora of political enemies, while defending the rights of Socialists in foreign soil... and our Xialtan war on terror, which will lead to the annexation of Ochyro, inevitably, will most likely distort our image to the eyes of the more libertarian and democratic nations of the globe." The diplomat sips his tea and continues "Xialta wants to sign a defense pact with Qastari, to ensure the protection of both of our nations, especially the trade route that we've enstablished. With enemies on the other side of the globe that are developing their military might and focus their policy around their psychotic warmongering ideologies, we'll need to be ready to defend ourselves against all odds and, for that, we'll need to make sure that both of our defense forces fight collectively and in synchronization." The diplomat deploys a paper on the GS's desk that. The paper displays the conditions and rules of the defense pact, the generic things you would expect from a defensive treaty, and a place where the signature goes, at the bottom. "Our nations will both benefit from this significantly. With us standing united as a single front, no enemy will dare to oppose us."

The Qastari official carefully looked over the papers presented to him and took a moment to mull over the Xialtan diplomat's words. He leaned over his desk, collected his thoughts, and began his response.

"Your concerns at the present conditions of our societies in relation to the rest of the world are certainly legitimate. While I believe the official line among our party and government may have some latent concerns over the rest of the world's reaction over your fight to annex Ochyro, our movement must indeed make efforts to defend the working classes of the world. It is with this and the interest of the continued developing friendship between our people in mind that I'm inclined to agree with your offer. With our close proximity and cooperation we could work to create an eastern firewall against the nationalists and fascists overseas that at every moment threaten and seek to topple us." The General Secretary signs the agreement, hands off the papers to an aid, and continues. "For this pact to go into effect, I've sent it first to be signed by the Premier as well. Qastari national policy for agreements of this magnitude"

"In the meantime, I believe this meeting inspires a few other subjects to discuss. Firstly, I believe it would increase the diplomatic ties further and normalize relations between our governments and people if we build embassies in each other's capitals. This would certainly make diplomacy a bit easier. Secondly, as far as what I've read in the Red Mantle our country has been united just a few years long than yours and that after your recent revolution have converted your arms manufacturies into food processing plants. I believe it would be in our mutual interest were we to amend our previous trade agreement a slight bit. In exchange for an increased amount of materials for producing arms to us such as iron, we would be glad to ship a large portion back to your people. This would surely create both jobs in our countries and further strengthen our agreement. What do you say?"

The diplomat closes his palms together, showing a few signs of nervousness, takes a deep breath and begins to talk.
"The C.F.R.T. and the Queen of Xialta are more than happy to know that you too are interested in constructing embassies in our nations' capitals. It certainly would be infinitely more convinient to have a more direct diplomatic relationship..." The diplomat pauses for a moment, before continuing. "In the Red Mantle, it was never stated that the transition from manufacturies designated for producing weapons to canneries was permanent. In matter of fact, Xialta wishes to modernize her army with locally produced equipment, especially after seeing how much our army is underperforming in the battle for Ochyro, at the moment. I mean, our victory against the terrorists is inevitable, but let's just say that the Red Mantle may or may not be exaggerating, when it comes to the quality Xialtan military. Plus, our food supplies are almost abundant again, thanks to the collective work of our people, which means that we will be able to produce rifles en masse. That being said, Qastari can legally produce its own weapons out of the Xialtan raw materials it is importing, as long as it does not disturb the development of infrastructure that could help with the extraction of oil. Let's not forget that our nations could always back each other up, when it comes to sharing supplies and weapons, in case of turmoil." The diplomat finishes talking and takes a final sip from his near-empty tea mug.

The GS can't help but feel both a bit embarrassed and amused at the Xialtan diplomat's response. "Perhaps my proposal then was a fair bit overzealous, and I should have consulted you on my concerns beforehand. Of course, I understand as our people are historically quote insular ourselves perhaps to a fault, if you desire to keep news such as this from the eyes of the many enemies of the revolution. All the more reason that these embassies and closer ties between our governments would be a positive which we are pleased you're on board with. I will make all necessary arrangements and send official papers immediately after this meeting"

The aid returns with the defense pact in hand, now signed by the premier under that of the GS, and presents it up the diplomat.

The diplomat inspects the papers and after he is done he puts them in his briefcase. He gets up and approaches the GS to shake his hand. "We hope that our alliance will be an unbreakable bond that will lead both of our peoples to prosperity." The diplomat proceeds to take his leave and return to his homeland.
