Adler's Acting Chancellor Lehardt has criticized Meridia for their condemnation during this "most extraordinary of times." Noting their own failure to prevent their Carnato State from using torture.

A Meridian Senator has commented: "If Adler wants a wave of violence in exchange for the abolishment of torture, a cruel institution, they should bring their troops to quell Canarto and assume the responsibility if they so fervently wish it instead of criticizing the established peace, which is far more valuable to Meridia and its prosperity. Otherwise, this comment is mere deflection"
The Parthenopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned Meridia's "tolerance" of torture and insubordination calling the matter "unfortunate."
Various Canartese political groups, from the regional right to the left, have called for a boycott of all Parthenian products. A demonstration on Florenzei is being planned.
The Spokeswoman for the Secretary of State for Parthenopias has been quoted as saying "Sanctions aren't off the table." This reference would be the strongest yet to suggest action against torture.
Quick to jump in on the controversy, the Sizhouan Worker's Party has released a statement pointing out the hypocrisy of the Meridian government's demonization of Sizhou's human rights record while practicing systemic torture.
An old man in the Capital claimed prophethood last week. Today, he ran up to the beach, pulled a dagger and started stabbing the ocean. Claiming that “The ocean shan’t be trusted, lest we be of the disbelievers.” The man will not be punished but sent to a nursing home.
Various Canartese entities (including the regional government) and the Kareguist priesthood have called for a rally in the capital, Florenzei. Next Friday, Saturday and Sunday have been decreed public holidays by the regional government, so it is expected that hundreds of thousands of Canartese will attend.
Spokeswoman for the IA has offered condolences for each of the five nations of the alliance to the government of Adler on their recent tragedy calling the matter "a dark moment" in our world's history.
