[EDITORIAL] Welcome to The Byzantium Herald

Established in 1854, The Byzantium Herald has long been the premier newspaper in Byzantium and Selene, providing quality news on events from all over the world from a variety of trustworthy and proven sources. Whether it is reporting on the slow efforts towards unification, the Peninsular War or the recent Nahr War, the Herald has a record of providing unbaised news and quality opinion pieces from all over the political spectrum, serving as an outlet for the open discussion of all views and the exchange of ideas, with the goal of contributing towards the building of an ever more open, informed and democratic society.

As the world moves forward and new technologies are developed, it is only natural that the Herald should adapt to these advances, and a good first step is to update our website, adopting a more modern layout that highlights the latest news and offers amply opportunities for all our readers to comment on them. Ever since our foundation, originally as the ‘Strait Times’, our goal has been to provide the best news for our readers. It is our hope that these changes to our website will accomplish just that, all while providing a more pleasant browsing experience.

One can see that events are shaping our history just as we write these words. The Nahr War reached its conclusion, First Councillor Valerio of Sartoria is conducting an official visit to Alssahra, Noveaux elected the successor to Empress Satine and is also leading the charge towards the formal establishment of the Tripartite Alliance. What will the role of the Herald be moving forward? We will continue to report on the news as objectively as possible, but we also seek to increase the opportunities for regular and guest writers to provide their input, to have a chance at contributing to the public discourse.

In the near future, expect a strong presence of quality opinion pieces and expert analysis, supplementing our ever present commitment to unbiased news. Information is important, and diversity opinions is always needed in addition to objective facts. We hope that this will provide ample opportunity for our readers to receive the best information possible and to become partners in the communications process.
