[IC]  Peace in the East

Peace Process

The Prime Minister, Deputy Foreign Minister, and the Internal Affairs and Administration Minister, plus some other diplomats, were at a press conference, finally making peace in the East

"We announce that we have a deal to secure peace in Oksioripoli" said an official "We will now take questions from the press. It will go like this: one question for the Fornirian delegation, another for the Union delegation after that"

"Start asking. First, a question for the Fornirian delegation"

(OOC: So, basically, you wonderful people can RP as the journalists in the conference, either foreign or domestic. Myself and Kumari included btw. Let's start!)

(But first, a speech from the Prime Minister)

"Greetings to all. Today, we have achieved peace in Oksioripoli. Today, we have achieved peace in the East for Fornoire, and peace in the West for the Union"

"When Kumari attacked the Fornirian side of the city, we were shocked, stunned. So, we decided to fight back. But both belligerents, two brothers, saw that a bloody fight between brothers was futile, a grave error. We saw the mistake, and stopped to begin peace talks"

"And now, we share this city. This city is Fornirian, Kumarian, and its own thing entirely. A city of brotherhood, of a shared past, of new, hopeful friendship. If we cannot see our family in a good light, we cannot advance as two enemies, for it will be our actions that prevent us to progress forward. We must advance as friends, family, or even as true allies. Because that is what we must be, and that is what we were in the past"

"I truly hope that this deal will give a lasting stability for both Fornoire and the Union. No one can deny that we are two, separate, distinct nations, each with its own people, identity and government. But, at the same time, we are brothers. Related to each other. Inseparable in many ways. If we become enemies, we will fail, ruin ourselves to the point of misery. However, if we are friendly towards each other, we shall triumph"

"If we do not seek to be allies, then that is okay. However, to create suffering in each other will disgrace our societies. No one wants more bloodshed and suffering. By not being violent towards each other, we give ourselves a treasure, a gift: stability in our borders. And we will intend for that treasure to be kept sacrosant for as long as we can"

(Setting the tone)

The Prime Minister of Fornoire stands at the podium with the rest of the delegates in front of the western set of doors of the city hall

The Executive Administrator Petrov, Administrator of Foreign Affairs Scmitei, Administrator of internal Affairs Kernik, along with a handful of diplomats are seated in front of the eastern  doors

In the center of the two sides is a podium in which the newly made flag for the city of Oskioriopoli is presented behind it decorated to show two equal halves an east and a west in which they begin to over lap in color to show blending and a new sense of unity between the two nations

The city hall itself was actually the old city hall for the Fornirian side of the city but now flies both nations flags

One Journalist of the Lusesurbe Informer, a foreign, national newsletter from Nostrasia stood up quickly and called to the Fornoiren representation in his heavy accent, trying not to make eye contact with the Union' representatives, as Nostrasia does not recognize them as a nation but as mere terrorists.

The man was dressed up in a straw beater hat, a tanned suit with matching trousers as well as shoes and a necktie. The fashion of Nostrasia.

"Mr. Prime Minister, I am from the Lusesurbe Informer, I'd like to know if any measures will be taken to quell the communist rebellions inside your country that will happen because of this defeat. Isn't it your duty to stop the red menace? Will you release the information about the damage the terrorist cells have inflicted upon the city? Why will there be no retaliation against this attack? Is the Fornoiren Military in such a weakend state?"

The Journalist took out a pen and paper and an assistant next to him, that was similarily dressed up, took a shot with a camera that looked drastically old but classy in a sense. As he pressed the button it made a loud noise and blinded everyone infront of it with its flash. Simply Nostrasia.

"This is ridiculous. I would like for you to know that we have communists in our governing coalition in Fornoire, and the Union is not exclusively communist anymore. I am myself a social democrat, often confused for the "red menace". We have socialists, communists, centrists, etc. in Fornoire's governing coalition. I find it impossible to see how left-wing groups now will rebel over a deal which has given peace to Oksioripoli"

"Tell me: is it better for a city to be pristine, or to gain it for yourself and have it totally destroyed? There was retaliation, but we responsibly sat down to talk, in the national interests of both countries. The fact that we have managed to achieve such peace deal instead of battling it out to defeat the other, thinking that the other will surely lose, is proof enough that both the Fornirian and Kumarian armed forces are fighting fit"

"This is not a defeat. This is a victory for the Fornirian and Union peoples. For both our nations to be victorious on this day is better than one nation acquiring a wasteland for their trouble"

"A question to the Union delegation"

(OOC: If you mean the communists rebelling on a capital, you're looking for the unresolved and still ongoing conflict in the Arzixian Republic, not for the Oksioripoli War's peace deal)

Elara Pallas,
Political Correspondent for the Aetira City Times

Standing in Oskioripoli had been a thought she had over a month ago when the violence was reaching its apex. The Union had launched a full scale military invasion of the Fornirian side of the city, ending the peace that had been established many years prior. Elara had been called into her editor's office within an hour of the news breaking on the international stage. The discussion had been about what she thought the end game was. The violence seemed to be relatively contained to the city but there were skirmishes along the border. It seemed the Union had caught the Fornirians off guard but had also not been totally prepared for any kind of substantial counterattack.

Some time had passed and the public in Parthenopias was clear in their desire to remain out of the conflict in all capacities. The Parthenopian government had held many conversations within itself and some with the other members of the AU. Within Parthenopias the consensus was clear, nothing was to be done unless the conflict widened or threatened to spread beyond the pair of nations. Many in the ruling coalition had wanted sanctions to be placed on the Union for their aggression but others noted that it would have led to an unfair and potentially damaging situation between the two. In the end the government simply protested the violence but nothing more.

The reporter from Nostrasia was wearing rather ridiculous clothing, then again they were a rather backwards people. The question had been posed to the Fornirians and the response by their PM was passionate but certainly inappropriate. An outburst like that in front of the international press, not to mention their enemies, was certainly something that begged the question of how stable his temper was. According to the layout of this press conference the next question was to be asked to the Union. Elara thought of one and immediately raised her hand winning the shouting contest that always accompanied press conferences back in Parthenopias. "Executive Administrator Petrov, I'm Elara Pallas from the Aetira City Times. Following many years of relative peace between your two nations, why was it decided to send an armed force into the city to seize it? Was it considered that this could lead to a large scale conflict that would topple the newly established Union government?" Elara said waiting to take down his response.

Sergei Petrov arose from his seat when she mentioned his name he is not used to the press as he has someone address the press for him indirectly for him. He began walking towards the podium removing his sunglasses along the way it almost seemed as if he wasn't even listening. The Fornirian PM motioned him up with a smile on his face, Petrov quickly cracked half a smile almost as if he had forgotten to smile.

"Mrs. Pallas. Due to increased security measures by Fornirian government along the border because of our speakers placed on the wall. We began to see the city as a security threat we originally planed to give them the city entirely and replace the wall around the outside. It wasn't until our investment of searching for oil in all cities that we discovered a reason to take the city. We had searched everywhere except cities so when we found large deposits that sit within the city we decided to simply remove them from the city. The final push was increase border protection on there side heated things up."

Petrov the turn to sit back down but stopped half way through the turn and turned back

"We were completely positive the entire time in Union forces and our invasion of the city was successful and evenly matched..."

The Administrator of Foriegn Affairs interrupted.

"I think you answered her question Executive Administrator."

Petrov returned to his seat

"A question for the Fornirian Delegation"

"Yes, for the Interal Affairs and Administration Minister, Urbanativi Hiemane from the Giriyeli Gazette. If this city is a shared city, how will it be run? What administrative status will it be assigned?"

"Good question. As it is a special city shared by both sides, it will be very autonomous on its own, and it will belong to both nations. For now, it will be part of Giriyeli Province in Fornirian administration, but we might consider making it a province on its own on a Fornirian aspect of administration, due to its high autonomy. The Union can also choose on how to administrate from a Kumarian aspect of administration. In short, the city will be part of both countries, with both countries choosing to locate the city in their aspect of administration as they please"

"Now, since the city is very autonomous, it will run its own elections. It will have a city council of sorts, and the mayor will be chosen by Oksioripolites. Fornoire also intends to let the residents of this city vote in national elections, and for them to have Fornirian citizenship. However, although the residents can have both citizenships, we have chosen to run border checks like in the main border with Kumari. For example, although Oksioripolites can elect to have Fornirian citizenship or both citizenships, they must still cross into the rest of Fornoire like any person crossing the Fornirian-Union land border. Kumari can elect to completely open their borders and to not run any border checks or controls, but we have done this in order to prevent Union citizens that are not residents of the city to slip out and go into Fornoire unpunished. We do hope that we eventually get to discuss easier border controls and even visa-free, completely open borders with the Union in the future, however"
